What a weekend it was. A 13 hour round trip with a 15 year old and 9 year old to attend the funeral of a loved one and celebrate her life. It was wonderful and tragic and beautiful and exhausting. Throw into the mix some extensive teenage angst, news that our first home that we bought 14 years ago in a tiny community with a depressed economy is now worth SIXTY thousand dollars less than what we paid for it, and by the way the roof is leaking and our long time renters are moving out. And did you know they were hoarders? No. Neither did I. But our Realtor was happy to let us know right before he suggested that we consider just letting the bank take it over because selling it is going to be expensive. And right, we still owe HOW MUCH? I am not sure they let you carry a mortgage when you no longer own the home.
In other words I was fairly stressed. And then I got sick.
Yesterday I ended up in the hospital and was admitted for an overnight stay. 5 doses of morphine later, an embarrassing episode of explosive vomiting on an X-Ray tech and too many IV meds to count, I am feeling better. And still without diagnosis but lots of specialist appointments in my future. Fun. Fun.
I hate morphine. It knocks me flat, runs me over and leaves me for dead for about 24 hours. I think that was what the doctors had in mind when they gave it to me. Apparently I need to take a nap.
Our story. Adoption, fostering, race and family in a small northern town.

Back in the Swing of Things
So I took pictures of the boys on their first day of school that I would LOVE to show you.
Miss Curious ate. ATE. part of my SD Card Reader.
Or she fed it to the dog? I am not really sure. Either way, pictures are on my camera. The cord? The cord was lost a long, long time ago. And this is the cheap, little camera mind you, because I think I mentioned that Eric dropped my expensive, wonderful and beautiful camera in the creek back in August. So I am down to a cheap little digital camera without a cord and no card reader.
You know, if I didn't have kids or dogs, my house would be in one piece. If my husband didn't touch anything that is. Did I mention he downloaded a virus onto our second computer, which is now the square dust collector in the corner?
Four kids, a job seeking husband and I all fighting for one computer? Guess who is winning.
Yes it would be the job seeking husband. The progressively more stressed out job seeking husband. If you pray, please keep it up. You can only apply for so many jobs without hearing back before you get depressed and very, very scared. I think we are there.
Speaking of scared, so were my sons today. Did you remember how confusing those combination locks are? Two to the right, one to the left and then BACK to the right? Try and tell that to a nervous, stressed, over tired 13 year old who has memory problems. Then I had to tell him he had to take the tape off the back that had the number on it.
Sort of defeats the purpose, don't you think?
Speaking of defeat (Its a night of segues!) Trip is defeating my last ounce of patience. For those that follow my Facebook Saga Status Updates, I am not ready to give up yet. For those that don't, HE PEED ON MY PHOTO ALBUM. Not just ANY photo album though, he peed on JAZZY'S memory album. Other than my grandmother's rocking chair, I probably don't have anything more precious in my possession. He pee'd on it.
There is no way to add anything productive to THAT story.

Days Of Significance - Today is One
Today is significant.
I reminded myself of that repeatedly today.
When Eric threw a fit before saying good morning. When we realized the milk had gone bad. When kids at school forgot to do their homework, despite the three day weekend. When the science experiment didn't work as expected. When the boys all gagged on the dinner I cooked. When I had been to the rink for 3 separate ice times by 5:30pm.
Today is significant.
Today a neighbour buried her husband killed in an accident last week. I don't know her, but she and her 4 young children aren't far from my mind. Today is significant.
Today a woman I have never met but know of is taking her last breathe. Robbed by cancer, she leaves behind two children and a traumatized husband unprepared for the road ahead. Today is significant.
Today someone lost a loved one. Today a baby was born. Today some grieves. Today someone rejoices. Today is the best day of someone's life. Today is the worst day of someone's life. Today someone became a victor. Today someone became a victim. Today someone beat addiction. Today someone became an addict. All today. Because today is significant.
Today I hugged my sons. Today I snuggled my husband. Today I talked to a friend. Today I made a choice I am proud of. Today I could work. Today I was healthy. Today I had enough food to eat. Today I was loved. That, and so much infinitely more. All of that, ALL OF THAT, I fit into TODAY.
TODAY is significant.
I never want to be so busy that I forget I want tomorrow to be significant too.
